The Private Pilot’s License

Whether your intention is to fly for fun or business or to make a career in aviation, the PPL is the starting point and it’s the foundation for more advanced qualifications. For our part, we’re here to give you all the training and support you’ll achieve your PPL.  Nothing gives us more satisfaction than the day you walk through our office door, with your freshly issued PPL, ready to take to the skies on your own.

So what’s involved in obtaining your Private Pilot’s License?  You’ll need to pass a basic aviation medical and no, you don’t need 20-20 vision; you’ll pass four multiple-choice exams; complete a minimum of 45 hours of flight time and take a flight test.

Written Examinations

Flightwise offers highly-regarded ground school courses throughout the year in preparation for sitting the written theoretical knowledge exams.  These exams are multiple choice tests on the subjects of Aviation Law, Human Performance and Limitations, Navigation & Meteorology and Aeroplane Technical.

Taking to the Skies

An aeroplane is an expensive classroom. The key to making cost-effective use of your time in the air is to have a comprehensive briefing on the ground. Our flight lessons are two hours long to ensure that you and your instructor will have adequate time for briefing before your flight and a thorough review afterwards when you’ve landed. You’ll also have lessons consisting entirely of ground briefings, which are vital for developing your knowledge understanding and are a key to making rapid progress towards obtaining your PPL

Making Bookings

You’ll be able to schedule your training using our internet-based booking system. You cam make bookings up to 6pm for the following day and you can also make cancellations up to 6pm relating to bookings for the following day. If you fail to cancel a booking by this deadline, a no-show fee will apply. Please note that your flight lesson will not be cancelled due to inclement weather; instead,  this time will be spent completing ground briefings or reviewing material as appropriate.
