The basic qualification for a pilot is the Private Pilot's License. Whether your intention is to fly for fun, business or make a career in aviation, the PPL is the starting point and a building block for more advanced qualifications. In order to obtain your Private Pilot’s License, you must obtain an aviation medical, sit four multiple-choice exams, complete a minimum of 45 hours of flight time and take a flight test.
Flightwise offers ground school courses throughout the year in preparation for sitting the written theoretical knowledge examinations, which are on the subjects of Aviation Law, Human Performance and Limitations, Navigation/Meteorology and Aeroplane Technical. We strongly recommend that you have passed at least two, and preferably all four of the written exams before you start to fly. For more information visit the written exams page.
An airplane is an expensive classroom, and the key to making cost-effective use of your flight time is to have a comprehensive briefing on the ground before your flight and a thorough review afterwards. Therefore our flight lessons are two hours long to ensure that you and your instructor will have adequate time for briefing. You will also have lessons consisting entirely of ground briefings, which are vital for improving your understanding and are a key to making rapid progress.
All our scheduling is done using our internet-based booking system. You will be able to make bookings up to 6pm for the following day, and you can also make cancellations up to 6pm relating to bookings for the following day. If you fail to cancel a booking by this deadline, a no-show fee will apply. Please note that your flight lesson will not be cancelled due to inclement weather, rather this time will be spent completing ground briefings or reviewing material as appropriate.
